LaPhroaig 10

Posted by docsmooth on 2012/07/27

Burned swamp pours out of this drink,
As you smell, you’re prompted to think,
It’s nose is so strong,
Perhaps I did choose wrong,
Inhaling this makes my eyes blink.

But then this Scotch touches your tongue,
And those wrong thoughts all come undone,
Its flavor is fine,
And just maybe, divine,
Bartender, please pour more than one.

Knockando 12

Posted by docsmooth on 2012/07/21

The smell of this scotch overpowers,
My noses’ detection of flowers,
But the taste is so smooth,
And soft like vermouth,
With pinched nose I will drink it for hours.

Woodford reserve Bourbon

Posted by docsmooth on 2010/09/05

Normally, I don’t drink bourbon, but since I did the tour, it deserves its place…

Bourbon is formed from many barrels,
The summers act like a heat bellows,
Forcing this spiced drink,
Through each barrel’s chink,
Until it comes out and is mellow.

Elijah Craig 18yo single barrel bourbon

Posted by docsmooth on 2010/09/05

Spicy and sweet with a car’mel nose,
Across the bar, its strong scent does blow,
I sip as I think,
To what shall I drink?
“To family who follows where I go!”

Laphroig 10

Posted by docsmooth on 2010/06/30

Peat and strength with tastes to enjoy,
The 10 year Laphroig keeps bartends employed,
I take one more sip,
And my hat I will tip,
To distillers of liquid joy.

Bowmore 15

Strong and woody with smoky dryness,
A drink that the gods would surely bless,
The nose, a perfume,
It goes down so smooth:
Like your girl stripping out of her dress.

Glenfiddich 15 Solara Wood Reserve

Posted by docsmooth on 2009/05/18

Smooth as silk with a splash of water
I sip as my wife talks of being a potter,
Its nose is sublime,
Soft as syrah wine,
The effects do make my pulse hotter.

I like Scotch. Scotchy-Scotch-Scotch.

Posted by docsmooth on 2009/03/04

I’m a big fan of single-malt Scotch Whisky.  One of my favorite movie lines is above, and I have been heard quoting it at Scotch tastings.  I may therefore blog about it sometimes.  Currently I have a bottle of Johnny Walker Black at home for mixing and late nights and a bottle of Aberlour 12 as my “good stuff.” When I travel, I have been known to take a small flask, as it saves money, and then I know what I’m getting.

Oddly enough, however, I probably only have a glass of Scotch every 2-3 weeks, unless one of my “Scotch buddies” is in town.  The price is high, and there is such thing as “too much of a good thing” I believe.

Later I’ll explain why, but when I have a new Scotch, I write limericks about it.  They will start to appear here.

Lagavulin 16

Strong, but softer than a good cigar,
A scotch I will drink till close of the bar,
Strong and not sweet,
it’s taste is complete,
Smoothness makes this Scotch go far.
